The Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai has said that drastic measures are being taken to protect roads in Bono and Yobe. Tukur gave the assurance Thursday in Damaturu, while briefing Governor Mai Mala Buni on the insecurity of lives and property on roads. The 132-kilometre Maiduguri/Damaturu road, was attacked on December 18, 2020 by Boko Haram and kidnapped 35 people with the killing of 10 others. “We’re taking drastic steps to ensure the road to Maiduguri; is secured to safeguard people’s lives and property,” he said. He stated that the Nigerian Army in partnership with other relevant stakeholders will have strategic engagements in the next few weeks. According to him, the engagements, are to further improve security in the identified flash points of insurgency affected states of Yobe and Borno. While responding to incessant attacks on roads, Buni lauded the Army and other security agencies for efforts and commitment in fighting insurgency and banditry across the nation. He assured Buratai that the state government will continue to support Army against all forms of insecurity in Yobe. He attributed the relative peace being enjoyed in the state and Northeast to commitment of Army and other security agencies.
