Despite Killings, Security Situation Has Improved in Borno-Zulum

Date:

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state, has said that despite recent killings of farmers by Boko Haram terrorists, the security situation has improved. According to him, the improved security situation in the state; was attained under the President Muhammadu Buhari administration. Zulum spoke on Sunday, while receiving members of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) led by Forum’s Board of Trustees and Executive Chairmen, Amb. Shehu Malami and Audu Ogbeh at Government House, Maiduguri, the state capital. “From statewide statistics on affairs in the 27 Local Government Areas (LGAs) since 2011, the fact is that; despite recent happenings in Borno state, the security situation has improved,” he declared. He said the security situation in the state and entire Northeast sub-region; is still far better under Buhari’s five-year administration. “The current security situation in Borno was based on about a decade long records,” he said. He maintained that; “For instance, unlike the years before Buhari when a number of local government were no-go-areas. “We now have people led by our traditional rulers, safely returned to Bama, Gwoza, Askira/Uba, Dikwa, Ngala, Monguno, Kukawa, Damboa, Konduga and Mafa LGAs. He noted that despite the return of IDPs to 10 councils, no one could neither “visit nor live” in the military liberated LGAs. According to him, most of the emirs were in exile before the return of IDPs to communities. He added: “Today, Bama is coming back to life and so are Askira/Uba, Damboa, Gwoza, and others. “Life is even returning in Baga town located on shore of Lake Chad. This was impossible before Buhari. “In fact, it was not possible to move a few kilometers out of Maiduguri. Insurgents were so bold to attack and take over military facilities like the army barrack at Monguno, Bama, Giwa and Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) Headquarters at Baga.” He said that there were daily attacks of bomb blasts in many parts of Maiduguri the most populated part of the state. He noted that in spite of all these, all the attacks and bombings stopped under Buhari. “These are the records and no one can dispute them since 2011,” he insisted before the ACF and its board of trustees in Maiduguri. Zulum added that it was human nature to be more concerned about current realities than comparing the past to present. While thanking the elders and all other groups, who paid similar solidarity visits over recent tragedy, he said: “The people of the state will remain optimistic and keep doing their part to find sustainable peace.”
