The Borno Emirate Concerned Citizens Forum (BECF); has supported the resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari over insecurity to millions of lives and property in nation. While clamoring resignation on Wednesday at a news conference in Maiduguri, the state capital, BECF’s Chairman, the Zannah Boguma of Borno, Hassan Boguma disclosed that; “This was the resolution of the Northern Elders Forum (BEF) adopted last week in Kaduna, the state capital.” He said that before the inauguration of President Muhammed Buhari in 2015, he called on former President Goodluck Jonathan to resign, when Boko Haram captured 22 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Borno. The insurgents led by Abubakar Shekau, hoisted Boko Haram flag in Gwoza town, and declared it as a Caliphate for insurgents in 2014, before the military captures it the following year. “We want to clearly state that the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces do the needful in ending the wanton killings in the state and across the nation.” He also solicit for the President to come down to Borno on a fact finding mission He noted that this will enable him conduct practical assessment of the carnage to both lives and property. The Boguma of Borno, also stated that; issues related to life and death and sending high power delegation, is however not enough. He therefore, declared: “All what we want is absolute proactive measures and not reactions and condemnations.” Continued, he added: “One of the fundamentals for electing you into the office of President in 2015, is overcome challenges of insecurity to lives and property. “It is disappointing to note that Nigeria under your watch is sinking and the need to reawakening from the slumber.” He said the President should allow for series of stakeholders’ consultative meeting that will provide firsthand information on how to resolve the over a decade insurgency. The Boko Haram insurgency has also claimed 36,000 lives with property worth $9.2 billion (about N3.42 trillion) in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states. While speaking on terrorists’ relationship, he said: “We also want to reflect and critically review the scenario and explore, whether Zabarmari community and others, are in good terms with insurgents, before the relationship gets soar. The forum extends its condolence to family members of 81 slain farmers. “We also wish a speedy recovery to those who were wounded in the rice field killings,” he said. Piqued by Garba Shehu’s statement on military’s clearance before going to farmlands, he said: “We are not happy about military clearance, before our farmers go to their farmlands. “We’re against the statement of Shehu. He should apologize to our people for accusing the dead for not getting clearance from military, to work on their rice fields to feed themselves. “Our people cannot continue to rely on handouts from governments and humanitarian agencies.” On whether federal government employ mercenaries to end war, he said that provided they can completely decimate terrorists from their hideouts and not implicate the nation for their selfish or global interests.
