Minister Of Health Lays Foundation Stones For Teaching Hospital, College In Borno

The Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, has laid the foundations
stones for construction of Borno State University Teaching Hospital
(BOSUTH) and College of Medical Sciences at Njimtilo.

The hospital and college located on Maiduguri/Damaturu road, are to
commence the awards of degrees in medicine and surgery.

According to him, their completions could overcome the enormous
challenges of the infectious and commutable diseases that claimed many
lives of people.

The multi-billion naira twin health projects, are being executed by
the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation.

While addressing the Minister and other top government dignitaries
Thursday at project site, Governor Babagana Zulum disclosed that; “In
line with 25-year development plan launched at weekend, a teaching
hospital and college of medical sciences, are being established to
deliver healthcare delivery services to people.”

“The commencement to construct BOSUTH and College of Medical Sciences
today (Thursday), are part of the implementation of the 25-year
development plan,” adding that the teaching hospital will start with
medical courses, particularly in medicine to meet healthcare
requirements of people.

He added that the completion of health projects, could produce
healthcare providers, including the undertaking of research in
infectious and communicable diseases to live a healthy life.

BOSUTH’s committee Chairman, Prof. Othman Kyari also said: “This is
the first phase of this teaching hospital.

“In coming up with this, we looked for the best of the best of our
existing teaching hospitals and other others outside the country.

“The requirements of all the regulatory bodies (medicine and surgery,
dentists, radiologists, pharmacists etc) were put into consideration.”

He said that by the time the healthcare delivery complex is completed,
it could be one of the best in the country.
He charged the State Ministry of Health and relevant government
establishments to play their roles in the completion of multi-billion
naira projects.
