Borno seeks NIS support to fight illegal immigration, cross-border crimes

The Deputy Governor of Borno state, Umar Kadafur, has solicited support of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to fight illegal migrations and cross-border crimes.

According to him, the State is bordered with neighbouring countries of Chad, Niger and Cameroon in the Northeast.

Kadafur; raised the alarm at the weekend, while receiving the Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) in charge of zone C, Abubakar Kankara, for a courtesy visits at Government House, Maiduguri.

He said as NIS, is a critical stakeholder in the security apparatus, it has role to play in the implementation of 25-Year Development Plan, recently launched by Governor Babagana Zulum.

He therefore, assured the NIS of government’s sustained support for its operations in border areas of Niger, Chad and Cameroon.

While responding, Kankara said that his team was in the state on tour of zone’s border areas formations.

He said the tour would afford the immigration team the opportunity to discuss intelligence gathering and information sharing,

According to him, intelligence and information gatherings could secure about 1,500 kilometre- porous border lines against influx of illegal migrants.

He also pledged the readiness of NIS to support the state government in the implementation of its development plan.

He said that the support will be in the areas of documentation of legal immigrants to invest in the state.
