Troops of 192 Battalion of the Nigerian Army; have been relieved from
the battlefield fighting Boko Haram insurgency, after serving several
years in Operation Lafiya Dole in Northeast.
The re-deployed soldiers, also “heaved sighs of relief” Monday, from
the ongoing five-year counter-insurgency operations in Sambisa Forest
and Lake Chad region.
While conducting a de-induction ceremony Tuesday at Headquarters of 7
Division, Nigerian Army, Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, the Acting
General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 7 Division, Brig-Gen.
Abdul-Khalifa Ibrahim, commended the re-deployed soldiers for their
outstanding performances in theatre of war.
He urged them to remain disciplined as they leave the war zone to
reunite with their respective families and other members of public.
According to him, the Battalion will be de-inducted further at the
Nigerian Army School of Infantry Jaji, Kaduna State.
He therefore, urged them to go on various courses to improve their
professionalism for promotion in the Armed Forces.
“When you go back, the way you will interact with the civil populace
is different from what you have been doing fighting Boko Haram,” he
noted.
He continued; “You must take into consideration attributes that we
expect a soldier to have – discipline, integrity, courage and respect
for others,” warning that; “We don’t want you to go and start fighting
people and say you have come from the North East.”
He said major achievements recorded by troops of Battalion; was their
participation in the liberation of Gwoza town from Boko Haram on March
17, 2015.
Although it is not clear how many of them were initially posted to
Northeast, a total of 55 soldiers were debriefed by Ibrahim.
