Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has employed 776 new
teachers for the reopening of 88 secondary schools on October 26,
2020.
While announcing fresh engagement Tuesday in Maiduguri; at a meeting
with Commissioners of State’s Ministries of Higher Education and
Senior Secondary Education; and Chairman of Borno State Universal
Basic Education (BOSUBEB), he disclosed that; “they are to join their
colleagues for schools reopening that were closed for seven months
over coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.”
SUBEB, is in charge of primary and junior secondary schools and other
stakeholders in state’s education sector.
Zulum also directed the State Ministry of Education and SUBEB to
recruit some qualified retired teachers, particularly in sciences on
an ad hoc basis.
He said the fresh recruitment exercise, was to bridge the gap of the
existing shortage of science teachers across the state.
According to him, as soon as ongoing verification exercises, were
completed more teachers be recruited for primary and junior secondary
schools.
“The State’s Universal Education Board, will carry out teachers’
recruitment exercises,” he said.
He added that the State Executive Council (SEC) has already resolved
to extend retirement age of tutors at state owned tertiary
institutions.
He said the retirement age extension bill, has been sent to State
House of Assembly for into law.
