VOTE OF CONFIDENCE: LAGOS LAWMAKERS PLEDGE LOYALTY TO SPEAKER OBASA…VEHEMENTLY DENIES INVOLVEMENT IN IMPEACHMENT RUMOR

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday during the Plenary pledged their loyalty to the Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, by passing a Vote of Confidence on his exemplary skills as leader and Speaker of the House.

The motion was moved by Hon. Rotimi Olowo, who raised the issue of a report trending online alleging that 26 Members of the House signed a petition to impeach the Speaker. He thereafter challenged Members who signed the purported petition to show their faces.

Members in attendance vehemently denied the allegations of their involvement in signing the impeachment petition; lending their voices in praising the Speaker on his pro-activeness in addressing the #ENDSARS brutality protest in the State.

Hon. Sanai Agunbiade stated that the alleged petition is a laughable matter and wondered why the House is displaying so much energy addressing it, “As the Majority Leader of the House, the process of impeachment of the Speaker is not something that can be achieved on social media. There is a procedure for it, so if anybody has signed a non-existing list, not submitting it to the Clerk of the House; the list needs to die in their pocket and must become null and void.” He maintained.

In addition, Hon. Oluyinka Ogundinmu who appreciate the prompt efforts of the leadership of the House on the End SARS protest in the State; reported that the petition is a fallacy and should not cause the House to lose focus of their responsibilities which is to represent their constituencies and Lagos State in particular.

Hon. Mosunmola Sangodara submitted that the leadership skills of the Speaker is worthy of emulation and the news on social media contending the petitions are untrue.

Hon. Adedamola Kasunmu stated that his loyalty to the Speaker is not flawed; revered the Speaker’s level of maturity and leadership trait which is unprecedented in directing the affairs of the House especially on allegations laid by mischief makers.

Hon. Mojisola Alli-Macaulay who described Speaker Obasa as a gracious leader who is nothing short of miracle and grace, noted that she has been a beneficiary of his legacy. She said her loyalty and that of her constituency, Amuwo Odofin 1 to the Speaker’s leadership will always be a thousand percent.

Joining the Members in support and allegiance to the Speaker, Hon. Victor Akande quoting sections from the House Code of Conduct sanctioned Members on the manners of statements, advising that the Members should not allow their personal interest to override the interest of the people.

 Hon. Desmond Elliot clamored that any Member found not adhering to the House Code of Conduct should be sanctioned and penalised. While commending Mr. Speaker on his teachable skills as well as his tenacity in harmonising and amending the laws of Lagos State; Hon. Desmond added that the Speaker has always been an advocate of integrity and discipline.

Listing some of the achievements, Hon. Noheem Adams noted that the Speaker in his leadership initiated the annual Stakeholders’ meeting which holds simultaneously in all the 40 constituencies, as well as the delegation he led to the President of Nigeria to agitate for the financial autonomy of all States which President Muhammadu Buhari granted.

Hon. Olawale AbdulSobur also applauded the Speaker on his integrity, capability, ability, competency which has never been in doubt. He assured Mr. Speaker of his solidarity to his leadership.

Hon. Bisi Yusuff signified that he is not one of the Members who joined in signing the impeachment petition and urged that a powerful Committee be set up to unravel and resolve the issue; while Hon. Moshood Oshun implored the House to unite as one.

The Deputy Speaker, Eshinlokun-Sanni Wasiu who joined the Members in passing a Vote of Confidence on Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Obasa described him as an embodiment of legislature.

Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Obasa noted that he strongly believes that becoming the Speaker is by divine intervention and not man-made, “Whatever comes to you is from Allah and you will have peace of mind.”

Urging the Members to see the House as their responsibilities, Mr. Speaker expressed his appreciation on the show of love and support by the Members of the House.
