Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum has urged Nigerian Army
take the war to Boko Haram hideouts of Sambisa Forest and Lake Chad
region.
According to him, troops should not wait for terrorists; to launch
attacks on them and civilians in Borno state and Northeast.
Zulum spoke on Tuesday, while declaring opening the Chief of Army
Staff Combined four-day Conference at Command Guest House, Maiduguri.
The conference will enable the army appraise the level implement focus
of events in 2020.
He said that taking the war to hideouts, will expose the insurgents,
collaborators and sponsors operating in forests and region.
He said that the army has to change the narratives of war to end
insurgency that already claimed many lives and property.
“The road to attainment of peace, is by no means an easy task,” he
said; noting that; “it’s rough, bumpy and full of unexpected
challenges.”
He continued; “We’ve no choice, but to face them squarely. As we must
not allow temporary setback, we should remain steadfast.
“In our collective efforts to free our nation from the dreaded Boko
Haram insurgents.
“I emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration in tackling our
security challenges through positive, constructive and conscious media
reportage.”
He added that there is need to address causes of insurgency, which are
not limited to endemic poverty, unemployment, poor infrastructural
facilities among others.
He said the only solution to end insurgency among others, is for state
government and military to look into a political solution to crisis.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai in his opening remarks
charged field commanders not to rent, but to sustain tempo of
operations and to decimate inimical forces
