Borno security situation is calm, despite EndSARS protests, says Zulum

Date:

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state, has said that the general
security situation in the state is relatively peaceful and calm.
According to him, this is despite of about three-week #EndSARAS
protest across the country.
Zulum made the declaration on Wednesday; at the State’s Security
Council meeting held at Government House, Maiduguri.
He said the security meeting, is being held when most parts of country
are embroiled in spontaneous security challenges, triggered by ongoing
protests that claimed many lives and properties.
While speaking on state’s relative peace, he said: “This is due to the
collective efforts and undeniable commitments of our security forces
and policy initiatives being introduced in the last six months.”
He said the implementation of policy initiatives, were in respect of
the palliative measures of Federal Government; as well as State’s
alleviation efforts of a special committee led by Commissioner of
Agriculture, Bukar Talba.
He said Talba distributed the food items and other essential supplies
to the vulnerable and less privileged in society during the
coronavirus (CVID-19) pandemic.
“The committee went round the entire state to distribute palliatives
to both the needy; as well as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in
camps and host communities.
Zulum told members of Security Council that; “this underscore our
determination to ensure that the palliatives reached the targeted
beneficiaries.”
He continued; “I’ve also been to all the Local Government Areas of the
state, to coordinate the distribution process of palliatives.
“These efforts and other subsequent ones have positively impacted on
the livelihoods of people,” noting that, they have also contributed to
relative peace and security being experienced in Borno.
He added that the return of IDPs to their respective communities, is
definitely on course before end of this year.
