Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state, has directed the immediate
“upgrade and resuscitation” of five factories to operate at installed
full capacities.
According to him, the resuscitation of dormant factories, will raise
capacity utilization to produce more output and create jobs
opportunities for unemployed youths.
The factories being resuscitated by the state government, include
NEITAL shoe and tannery factory, Plastic Waste Recycling Company,
Solar Panel and Tomato Processing Plant, sited along
Maiduguri/Damaturu road, Maiduguri.
While inspecting dormant factories Tuesday in Maiduguri, he disclosed
that; “The 16-chain of factories, were installed for the production of
plastic irrigation equipment and pipes, and other plastic products.
They are also to process various varieties of agricultural crops,
including harvested tomatoes and onions.”
He added that the state government; has targeted nine factories for
the “resuscitation and upgrade” to create more job opportunities for
youths.
Zulum said that he has directed the immediate upgrade of five
factories currently operating at low capacity utilization.
“We’ve 21 factory-projects in Maiduguri, while some of them are either
dormant, at take-off or operating at a low capacity utilization,” he
said.
He said the resuscitation of factories, was take advantage of state’s
geographical location to the economic gateway to neighbouring
countries of Niger, Chad and Cameroon.
In an effort resuscitate dormant industries, the Governor, last May
constituted a technical committee to upgrade the factories to
installed full capacities.
The committee, led by Abatcha Jarawa and General Manager of Borno
Plastic Company, had gone to work.
While at the plastic factory, he inspected part of over 3,000 school
chairs already produced with satisfaction of quality of work carried
out during the resuscitation of firm.
“The plastic Waste Recycling Company (WRC), has now reached its full
capacity utilization to produce various plastic products,” he said.
