Police arrest 8 suspecrs for kidnap, rape in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command, has arrested eight suspected kidnapers
and a rapist in various part of state.
The arrests were made in the last two months, with ransom demand of N3
million to spare the life of a 13-year child.
Spokesman of Command, ASP Dungus Abdukarim, disclosed this Wednesday
in Damaturu, while briefing journalists on abduction of Yau Adamu and
his son, Umar in Duja villae of Fika council.
He said that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Fika, deployed a
combined team team of policemen and vigilante group and rescued the
child.

During the period under review, personnel of Divisional Police
Headquarters, Fika led by the DPO rescued a 13 year old boy named Umar
Yau from his kidnappers.

According to him, the four suspects took Umar and his son to an
unknown destination but later released the father.

While demanding for a ransom, he was given one live ammunition of an
AK-47 riffle, an Airtel Sim card and a letter written in Hausa
demanding for N3 million ransom.

He said the payment of ransom was to spare his life and secure the
immediate release of his son.

“We’ve intensified efforts to apprehend other fleeing syndicate
members for interrogation and subsequent prosecution,” he said, adding
that three suspected kidnapers of District Head of Mashio were also
arrested in various location of country.

“The suspects are presently undergoing interrogation at a police
facility in Damaturu,” he said.
