Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state, has distributed assorted food items to 3,200 household farmers in Zabarmari community to cushion economic hardships. The Community had been severally attacked by Boko Haram, with the displacement of over 6,000 people to take refuge in Maiduguri Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp. Zulum, who was represented Sunday by Chairperson of State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Hajiya Yabawa Kolo, disclosed that the gesture was part of government efforts to support low income households with coronavirus (COVID-19) palliatives. According to her, the distribution exercise, was to support the vulnerable segment of society; who are in hardships; as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and decade long insurgency. Kolo, who doubles as Secretary of Palliative Response Committee, said the distributed food items, include rice, tomato paste, seasonings, salt, cooking oil, noodles, maize flour and condiments. While the households, she explained comprise persons with disabilities, old people and widows as well as other low income famers, herders and traders. “The Governor seeks to provide quality governance and leadership by giving a sense of belonging to all segments of society in the state,” she said. She said the over a decade Boko Haram insurgency, has destroyed farmers means of livelihoods, including economic activities and livestock production in the affected community. This support, according to her, will put smiles on faces of household members to continue pick up their lives.
