Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state; has commissioned N200 million
water projects to meet water supply requirements in two communities of
Maiduguri metropolis.
The two water projects were completed by Jack Rich Foundation to
restore destroyed water facilities during decade long Boko Haram
insurgency in Maiduguri metropolis.
According to him, the donated water projects; are to serve 500,000
households in Goni Damgari and Shehuri North communities.
He said the communities were badly hit by the Boko Haram and lacked
portable water for industrial and domestic uses for over a decade.
While speaking on capacities of water projects; he said: “The twin
water projects have solar panels of 280 watts, a water tank,” adding
that they distribute 200, 000 litres of water a day with the
reticulation of communities for two kilometres.
He said the provision of water for human and livestock consumption
will remain a major priority.
He also pledged to address water scarcity being experienced in parts
of the state.
Senator Ali Ndume, who represents Borno south senatorial district; and
Amb. Babagana Kingibe who facilitated siting of projects; commended
the Foundation for completing the water projects.
They called on individuals and other corporate organisations to
support over 1.5 million vulnerable people traumatized in decade long
insurgency.
The Community leader of Goni Damgari, Zanna Masu said the completion
of water project; will also prevent outbreaks of epidemics, like
cholera and meningitis.
The third water project will also be constructed in Gubio town in
north part of the state.
