The Yobe State Government; has awarded N2.6 billion contract for the completion of Nguru ultramodern market. The construction firm, ADAF BML, which won the contract Wednesday in Damaturu, is to complete the project in a year. While signing the contract on behalf of government, the Commissioner of Commerce, Tourism and Industry, Barma Shettima disclosed that; “The completion of this market, will prevent perennial fire outbreaks with the loss of many lives and property.” He noted that some people even attributed the annual fire outbreaks to “evil spirits” that could have emanated from a few razed shops. “Fire fighters and the police could not even identify the causes of previous fire outbreaks from Nguru market,” he said. He therefore; urged the contractor to adhere and comply with the terms of contract on market building specifications to comply with international standards. “You should maintain all the quality building materials detailed, as contain in project’s terms of agreements.” According to him, the completion of market, will reactivates the state’s economy through trade, tourism and jobs creation for unemployed youths.
