BOSIEC to conduct elections in 27 councils

The Chairman of Borno State Independent Electoral Commission (BOSIEC),
Abdu Usman has said that arrangements have been completed to conduct
elections in 27 councils.
According to him, 18 political parties are participate in the council
elections, slated for November 28, 2020.
While flagging off resumption of political activities Tuesday in
Maiduguri, Usman disclosed that; “this is to entrust full
democratically elected leaders at the grassroots of third tier
governance”
He said this will enable the commission to ensure credible elections
in 27 Local Government Areas of Borno.
“I assure you of an open door policy to authenticate any electoral
issue that could enrich commission’s mandate,” he said.
On election security challenges in some councils, he said that
elections are to be conducted in Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)
in camps with the recent amendment of State’s Electoral Act of House
of Assembly.
He said that in compliance with Nigerian Centre for Disease Control
(NCDC) protocols, all voters and electoral officers are to their face
masks and adhere to social distancing.
“All the COVID-19 protective measures are to be adopted in all polling
stations with the provision of hand washing points and sanitizers,” he
said, noting that voters will not be allowed into polling centres
without face masks.
