Dr. Zainab Gimba of the National Assembly, has engaged 2,007 Borno
constituents with motor vehicles, tricycles, pumps and takeoff grants
of N3 million.
According to her, the distributed empowerment tools and machines are
to restore livelihoods of electorates during the decade long Boko
Haram insurgency.
While distributing empowerment tools and machines Thursday in
Maiduguri, Dr. Gimba, who represents Bama/Ngala/Kalabalge federal
constituency in Borno state, disclosed that the empowerment exercise,
was to reciprocate 120 delegates’ confidence in electing her represent
them at National Assembly.
She said the N3 million grants, for the deceased families’ delegates
that performed well during the 2019 electioneering campaigns in Borno
state.
She said that the people taking refuge in Internally Displaced Persons
(IDPs) camps of Maiduguri, Dikwa and Monguno, have lost their means of
livelihoods to Boko Haram insurgents.
“The over a decade long insurgency, has destroyed irrigation farming
and livestock production structures in constituency.
“This prompted my people to flee their ancestral homes of Bama, Ngala
and Kala/Bala, a community bordering Cameroon to take refuge in camps
and safer host communities.”
While commending empowerment exercise, Governor Babagana Zulum said:
“It will go a long way in restoring the lost means of livelihoods in
affected federal constituency of Bama/Ngala/Kalabalge.”
He therefore, warned the beneficiaries against selling distributed
empowerment tools and machines for selfish interest.
“You’re to fully engage yourselves in productive economic activities,
so that the lost means of livelihoods is restored before end of this
year,” he charged.
