The Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar El-Kanemi; and Governor
Babagana Zulum of the state; attended yesterday’s Eid-el-Kabir prayers
amid Thursday attacks in Maiduguri metropolis.
The rocket propelled attacks, according to Police Command, were fired
into Customs and Gwange Communities, killing two persons and
hospitalization of 16 others.
Leading thousands of Muslims for the prayers at Ramat Square,
Maiduguri, the Imam Idaini of Borno state, Shettima Mamman Shettima
called for the unity of people with ‘raka’at prayers’ to end the
coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic that claimed over a dozen lives.
Shettima however, shortened the Huthba (sermon), as measures to
prevent delays of keeping people waiting at the praying ground.
“I called for the unity of all Borno residents for prayers to end this
pandemic that has spread to five councils,” he said, noting that the
Muslim community should tolerate one another to enable them live
peacefully.
The Commissioner of Health, Dr. Salihu Kwaya-Bura had recently told
journalists that COVID-19 had spread to Maiduguri Metropolitan Council
(MMC) and four council areas of Jere, Dikwa, Gwoza and Biu.
At end of yesterday’s prayers, Governor Zulum at the Government House;
also urged citizens to sustain prayers for the return of peace in the
state.
The Governor’s Sallah message, which was delivered by state All
Progressive Congress (APC) Chairman, Ali Bukar Dalori, congratulated
Muslims for ‘safe and successful completion of prayers’ across the
state.
