The attention of the Nigeria Police Force Delta State Command has been drawn to a publication on Vanguard Newspaper with the captioned ”I WAS GANG RAPED BY HERDSMEN, OFFERED BLOOD TO DRINK AS WATER- KIDNAPPED VICTIM” published on the 14th July 2020 on page 2 by Evelyn Usman. To be precise, the incident was never reported at any Police Station in Delta State. From findings the “victim” went to Vanguard Newsroom in Lagos where she reported the alleged incident and we are therefore left with the question; “is the newsroom a Police Station?” Investigation has been carried out and nothing of such happened. If the victim is certain about the authenticity of her story, she could have come forward with her complaint for investigation to be carried out. The Commissioner of Police Delta State Command, CP. Hafiz M. Inuwa, mni frowns at this bare faced lies and warn journalists to desist from heating up the polity and misleading the public with fake news. He enjoined residents to ignore the cock and bull’s story, remain calm and go about their normal businesses because the story in all its entirety is a hoax. The Offices of Commissioner of Police and Police Public Relations Officer Delta Command are widely open for Journalists to walk in to verify stories before publication. Members of the third estate are therefore, advised to avail themselves of the opportunity and discourage yellow journalism, please.
