Army’s Commitment Is Not There To Secure Baga, Others-Gov. Zulum

Date:

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state, has said that ‘there is no commitment of Army’ to secure Baga town and other communities in the Lake Chad Basin. The Basin comprises; Kukawa, Cross Kauwa and Monguno communities located on shores of lake. Zulum spoke on Wednesday evening at Kukawa, where his convoy was attacked by Boko Haram terrorists. He said that the attack on his convoy, while proceeding to Baga town from Kukawa, has happened and a bygone. While one of the commanders was briefing the Governor on the incident, Zulum also said: “The shooting that has happened, happened! We remain grateful to the Nigerian Army. But the commitment is not there.” Responding, the Commander said: “No, No. We did the clearance, me and the Sector Commander. We saw where the insurgents were. “There is no Boko Haram inside Baga town.” The Governor’s convoy was also attacked early this year, while returning from Konduga to distribute food items to displaced persons and inspection of ongoing 500 unit housing project. During the attack, two members of Civilian JTF and a policeman sustained injuries, while protecting the Governor and other government officials. Zulum had to shelve the trip to Baga and returned to Monguno to continue distribute food items and cash to over 35, 000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in camps. The IDPs, according to State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), were attacked and sacked from seven councils of Guzamala, Mobbar, Abadam, Kukawa, Marte and Monguno during the over a decade long Boko Haram terrorism.
