Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state has lit 15 towns and
communities with the installations of 55 electric transformers.
The transformers installed by Ministry of Housing and Energy (MHEG),
costs N192.5 million in the last one year.
While announcing completed and ongoing projects Tuesday in Maiduguri
at a news conference to mark Democracy Day, MHEG’s Commissioner, Saleh
Yuguda disclosed: “Governor Zulum has accorded top most priority to
the installations of electricity in Maiduguri metropolis, sub-urban
and rural communities across the state.”
According to him, five additional electrification projects were also
completed with the installation of 55 units of 500 KVA transformers.
“The completion of these projects was to optimize street lighting in
18 communities,” he said, adding that five housing estates and public
institutions were also electrified in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council
(MMC), Jere and Konduga councils.
He said the target of government, was to electrify Borno state for
‘safety and comfort’ of residents living in urban and rural centres.
He said that out of 17 electrification projects, seven are ongoing in
Hawul, Shani, Bama, Kwaya/Kusar, Bama and Mafa councils.
While speaking on inevitable power supply, Yuguda noted: “This will
also stimulate economic and business activities for Borno’s economic
recovery,” adding that the electrification projects could restore
people’s livelihoods.
