The Borno State Government; is partnering with North East Regional
Initiatives (NREI) to establish four community radio stations across
the state.
The radio stations; are to be established at Monguno, Biu, Dikwa and
Damasak, a northern border community with Niger Republic.
This was disclosed Monday in Maiduguri, by Commissioner of
Information, Babakura Abba-Jato, at 10-day ministerial briefings to
mark first year anniversary of Governor Babagana Zulum.
According to him; radio stations programmes could also sensitize
people against Boko Haram insurgency and illiteracy among the various
communities affected by decade long terrorism.
While speaking on Borno Radio & Television (BRTV) station, he said:
“The FM radio Biu station had been completed and operational.
“While the remaining three community radio stations are to be built
and equipped to commence community transmission.
“The BRTV stations had been provided with a new transmitter, while
booster stations would be established to ensure that it covered Borno,
including neighbouring states of Yobe and Adamawa.
Continued; “We are also going to put the television station on
satellite for citizens in diaspora to receive both radio and
television clear signals.
While the state information unit, he added has been equipped with
facilities to make it more efficient in the dissemination of
information to public.
Speaking on Government’s dormant printing press, he said: “We have
also resuscitated the state printing press that had been dormant for
over three decades.
Abba-Jato, who also oversees state’s Fire Service, told journalists
that 62 fire engines are being refurbished to boost fleets of
firefighting machines across the state.
