Borno Completes TAM Maiduguri water treatment plants to boost supply

The Borno State Government has completed the turnaround maintenance (TAM) of Maiduguri water treatment plant and Alau raw water facility to boost water supply to metropolis. The complete reactivation of plant; was effected with a turnaround maintenance of six 185KW centrifugal pumps to discharge 756,000 litres of water per hour. State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum disclosed this at the weekend, while rounding off the 10-day inter-ministerial briefings in Maiduguri to mark one year in office. “The future prospects in the demands for portable water for domestic and industrial uses are high,” he said, noting that hard hit areas of Chibok and Gwoza have very deep water aquifers to reach in supplying water to teeming population. While speaking on raw water facility, he said the completion of turnaround maintenance of three 337KW centrifugal water pumps; now discharges 560,000 litres of treated water in an hour. He said that in boosting the water supply, 12 chemical dosing pumps were installed with the rehabilitation of chemical tanks. He said the reticulation and piping networks at water treatment plants; are ongoing to sustain supply and distribution of portable water in metropolis On perennial water scarcity, he said: “We’re designing structures that will handle natural flow of water across the state,” adding that government will invest in aquifer water projects. Meanwhile, he said that the water treatment plants are to extend the supply of portable areas to meet demands of over two million residents
