Borno completes 65 housing projects to return 1.8m IDPs

Date:

The Borno State Government has completed 65 housing projects for the
‘return and resettlement’ of 1.8 million Internally Displaced Persons
(IDPs) to 22 Local Government Areas.
The councils, before return of displaced persons, were affected in
decade long Boko Haram insurgency that destroyed many lives and
property.
While announcing completion of 2,040 houses and 1,000 emergency
shelters on Tuesday at a news conference in Maiduguri, the
Commissioner of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR)
disclosed: “We had to overcome enormous challenges, including
insecurity to construction workers and building materials.
“The council areas of Abadam, Marte, Guzamala, Kala/Balge and Mobbar,
are still no go areas to complete our ongoing projects in Koibe, Ajiri
and Monguno communities.”
He noted that council secretariat complexes, lodges and high courts;
including palaces of traditional rulers were also completed for return
of monarchs and IDPs.
While speaking on insecurity, Gubio said: “The rebuilding or
completion of houses and public structures destroyed in Abadam,
Guzamala, Kala/Balge and Marte councils; requires military clearance.
“When we are transporting building materials and construction workers,
we had to seek military escorts; before reaching insurgency affected
Local Government Areas to complete ongoing projects.”
He said the ongoing housing projects, are located at Damboa, Warabe,
Koibe, Ajiri, Wulgo; Marte, Monguno and University of Maiduguri
Teaching Hospital (UMTH).
Other no goes areas to complete housing and public structures, include
Kukawa, Baga and Cross Kauwa in Borno north senatorial district.
He added that the former Ministry of Land and Survey had be remodeled
and become Borno State Geographical Information Services (BOGIS)
He said that the remodeling of Ministry was adhering to the building
plans of Maiduguri Metropolis and its environs.
