Borno completes 326 capital projects, executes 49 socioeconomic programmes

The Borno State Government; has completed 326 capital projects with
the execution of 49 policies and programmes in various sectors of
economy.
The over 27 dozen projects, sited across the state, were completed
during the first anniversary of Governor Babagana Zulum
administration.
Secretary to the State Government, Usman Jidda Shuwa disclosed this
Saturday to mark Democracy Day in Maiduguri, the state capital.
He said out of 21 capital projects, Zulum’s administration is building
6,544 sub-urban and low-cost houses in a dozen Local Government Areas.
According to him, the ongoing housing projects are for the
re-settlement of 1.7 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) and
refugees.
He further disclosed that the refugees are to be repatriated by state
government from Cameroon, Niger and Chad.
On anniversary’s media engagements, he said: “I’m kick-starting the
media engagements lined up to mark the one year in office.
“Commissioners and heads of boards and agencies are scheduled to begin
pictorial-based press conferences from today (Monday) in Maiduguri.”
He noted that while Commissioners are briefing the media, they should
provide; “specifics of projects, including their stages of completion
and where they are sited across the state.”
Continued; “On security, 300 surveillance vehicles were distributed to
security agencies and volunteers and these vehicles were captured
under one project.
“In the education sector, 76 projects were carried out including the
establishment of 21 new schools in 13 Local Government Areas.
On completed healthcare projects, he said: “In the health sectors, 46
projects were completed comprising 37 new primary healthcare centers
in 17 Local Government Areas of state.
“While in the infrastructure development sector, 40 projects were also
inaugurated in nine Councils.”
According to him, the infrastructural and roads completed projects,
include 30 new and rehabilitated metropolis and community roads.
“This include the N4.3 billion first ever flyover Bridge in Northeast,
is also ongoing at the Customs Areas, Maiduguri, the state capital,”
he said.
In a breakdown of completed projects, he said; “On restoration of
civil authorities in Local Government Areas, Governor Babagana Zulum
undertook 53 projects in 21 Councils.
“Eleven of such projects were also started from scratches, while 42
were rehabilitation and re-construction works that were completed in
various communities.”
According to him, completed projects, include Council Secretariats and
Lodges complexes, police stations, Local Education Authorities
offices, Courts and Palaces of traditional rulers.
He said palaces of traditional rulers in Dikwa, Askira, and Gwoza, a
border community with Cameroon, were torched by Boko Haram insurgents.
Shuwa further disclosed that Zulum also undertook completion of 38
capital projects in the water, power, agricultural, vocational skills
and entrepreneurship and development sectors.
He said the completed projects include 213 drilled boreholes, 18
electrification projects, with eight in agriculture and seven in
vocational skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development t
sectors of economy.
He explained that Zulum undertook 38 capital projects on water supply,
including the drilling of 213 new boreholes, 18 projects on
electrification, eight on agriculture and seven on vocational skills
and entrepreneurship development programmes.
