The Yobe State House of Assembly member (name withheld); has refused
to be isolated, after being tested positive for coronavirus
(COVID-19).
According to hospital sources Tuesday in Damaturu, the lawmaker was
rushed to the General Sani Abacha Specialist Hospital and was admitted
at the amenity ward of hospital.
His sample was therefore; taken and later confirmed to have tested
positive for COVID-19 disease.
The Accident and Emergency Unit (AEU) source told The Guardian that
the teste positive legislator, however refused to go to the COVID-19
isolation centre of hospital.
While lamenting the isolation defiance, the hospital source said: “It
was a running battle between us and the member of the State House of
Assembly to move to the isolation center and he bluntly refused to
comply.”
According to hospital authority, the action of the legislator; has put
the lives of other patients and health workers in danger.
Meanwhile; the entire patients in the amenity ward of hospital have
been evacuated and the wing deserted.
It was only a hospital cleaner that was sighted cleaning the area,
while the medical personnel were nowhere to be found in and around the
amenity ward.
A nursing officer also confirmed that the defiant legislator; was
still inside the ward.
“I’m however surprised that none of our staff was sighted around the
ward,” she said.
She said that even the parking lot of ward; was empty except a white
Toyota Corona Car which was said to have belonged to the legislator
parked outside hospital premises.
It was also learnt that the isolation defiance legislator irked the
health workers by refusing to attend to him in the last two days.
The State COVID-19 Committee led by Deputy Governor, Idi Gubana had to
intervene by directing the defiant legislator to immediately move into
the Isolation facility as today (Tuesday).
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Mohammed Lawan Gana who is also the
Vice Chairman of the State COVID-19 committee could not respond to
calls and messages sent to him by our correspondent on the issue.
