Buni Orders 10-hour COVID-19 Curfew In Yobe

Governor Mai Mala Bun of Yobe state has declared 10-hour coronavirus
(COVID-19) curfew to prevent further spread of virus.
According to him, the 8pm-6am curfew was to prevent the transmission
of virus in communities of 17 Local Government Areas.
While announcing curfew on Monday at Government House, Damaturu, he
said: “In compliance with the President’s directives on lock down, I
hereby ordered that effective from Monday, May 4, 2020, a restriction
of movement is hereby declared from 8pm-6am daily.”
Buni, who was represented by his deputy, Idi Gubana, who is State
Chairman committee on prevention and control of COVID-19, said that;
as the challenge is persisting with worrisome indices, more and more
measures have to be taken.
He said the measures are being taken across the state to prevent the
worse scenario of the COVID-19 disease.
“This is a very dangerous stage of community transmission,” he said;
which the people are sadly going through at community level.
He added that the state government has also banned interstate
movement, noting that this will as reinforces the existing closure of
borders with neighbouring states of Borno, Jigawa, Gombe and Niger
Republic.
According to him, compulsory wearing of masks by the public and the
nationwide curfew declared by the President must be complied.
The committee however excluded personnel, and staff that are involved
in transportation of essential goods and services.
While the directives on restrictions of movement order; excluded civil
servants on grade level 14 and above who are not covered by the
existing of stay at order.
“They must also wear their face masks to work and other public
places,” he said, noting that this is in addition to already existing
measures declared by Buni.
He warned that all public officers who travelled out on non-official
journeys will be quarantined, including visitors on transit for two
weeks.
The committee also adopted that all filling stations, shopping complex
and road side shops must provide hand washing facilities at their
premises.
Gubana therefore, called on people to cooperate by adhering to
measures being put in place for protection of citizens.
He said physical/social distancing; wearing of face masks, frequent
hand washing and personal hygiene are effective means against
COVID-19.
