Borno Discharges Six More COVID-19 Patients, Conducts 50 Tests Daily

The Borno State high-powered committee on coronavirus (COVID-19) has
discharged six more patients with conduct of 50 tests daily.
The committee also distributed 100,000 face masks and 20,000 hand
gloves, as protective measures against COVID-19 in communities,
hospitals and isolation centres.
Secretary of COVID-19 Committee, Dr. Salihu Kwayabura, who doubles as
State’s Health Commissioner, disclosed this Monday at a media update
in Maiduguri.
He said with the discharge of 12 patients on Sunday, this brings
cumulative discharged patients to 18.
While speaking on testing capacity of committee, he said: “To reduce
transmission of COVID-19 in communities of five Local Government
Areas, the testing capacity of committee, is to rise from 50 to 100
tests a day.”
He said that the doubling capacity for testing, has led to a decline
of positive COVID-19 cases in Borno.
“As we’ve capacity to test 96 samples in the laboratories, our target
is to test 500 collated samples per day at the University of Maiduguri
and the teaching hospital,” he said.
He added that the Biu town isolation centre under construction; will
be completed and equipped this week.
