Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state; has distributed food items and
wrappers to 11,000 households in Gajigana and host communities of
Magumeri Local Government Area.
The households were; displaced by the decade long Boko Haram terrorism
from over two dozen villages in Magumeri and Nganzai Councils.
While disbursing N32.5 million and wrappers to 6,500 women Monday at
Gajigana, he said the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs); had been
facing acute shortages of food items and other basic needs of life.
“Today’s (Monday) distribution and disbursement exercise of cash,
could overcome the humanitarians crisis in insurgency affected
communities of Borno state with palliatives,” he said, adding that
normal academic activities will soon commence in two councils.
According to him, the distributed food items; comprise 450 tons of
rice and maize grits (9,000 bags); and 13,500 litres of cooking oil.
His words: “Each of the 4,500 households has a bag each of rice and
maize grits; and three litres each of cooking oil.
“While the 6,500 women were each provided with a cash of N5,000 for
sawing the distributed bales of wrappers.”
Speaking on preventive measures of COVID-19, Zulum said that the IDPs
are sensitized on the adherence of “hand washing, social distancing
and personal hygiene” in host communities and camps.
“They are adhere to these preventative measures to sustain the zero
COVID-19 status in the state,” he said, while the Ministry of
Education adopts teaching and learning through TV and Radio and
radios, as internet service are yet to be developed in the state.
