The Surveyor General of Federation (SGEF); Mr. Samuel Taiwo has said
that series of map is being developed to aid proper analysis and
understanding dynamism of coronavirus (COVID-19) disease.
According to him, mapping of COVID-19 in Nigeria; could provoke
effective decisions and actions against the virus.
Taiwo disclosed this Sunday in Abuja; as a guest on NTA Global Update
on COVID-19 pandemic that claimed over 200, 000 lives.
“No one cannot manage a phenomenon if COVID-19; is not contiguously
mapped in the country,” he warned.
He said the map will contain spatial or geographical information that
provides at a glance, the spread, movement and extent of the ravaging
global pandemic in Nigeria.
While speaking on generated COVID-19 map, he said: “It was developed
from the daily data sourced from the Nigeria Centre for Disease
Control (NCDC).
“The on regular basis updates, can reflect the current information on
coronavirus that has already spread to 32 states.”
He said the Office of Surveyor General of Federation (OSGoF), an apex
surveying and the mapping extra-ministerial office in the country; has
produced maps since April.
He explained that the maps have compressed to show the progression of
the virus in digital form.
