The Northeast Development Commission (NEDC); has donated two ambulances and 50 hospital beds to the state government for COVID-19 isolation centres in Yobe. Other donated materials, include medical equipment and food items to prevent and contain spread of COVID-19 disease in the state. While presenting ambulances and beds Friday in Damaturu, NEDC’s Executive Director, Muhammad Jawa disclosed that the donations; are part of palliatives measures to contain coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
His words: “In order to assist people and reduce spread of the deadly virus, we are presenting to Yobe state government two ambulances, 50 hospital beds. “Other donated palliatives, include 1,100 cartons of macaroni, 35 tons of rice and maize flour, 13, 000 gallons of cooking oil, 2,800 cartons of tomato paste and spaghetti and 13, 100 packets of maggi cubes and salt were delivered for distribution,” he said. He noted that the commission had earlier donated other palliative items to the state government. He added: “Earlier we gave out some palliative items to state Government; which include personal protective equipment (PPE), ventilators, surgical masks, face masks, infrared thermometers hand gloves; hand sanitisers among others.” Governor Mai Mala Buni, who was represented by his deputy, Idi Gubana said the commission’s support had come at an appropriate time.
He said the support will prevent and contain the deadly virus across the state. He said all businesses have been shut down and people are struggling to sustain their lives with 14-day lock down. “Our Governor has been doing everything possible to ensure all palliatives reach the grassroots,” he assured.
