Buni Pardons 27 Prison Inmates In Yobe

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni; has pardoned 27 prison inmates to de-congest correctional centres across the country. According to him, the pardoning of inmates, are in accordance to section 212 of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria. Director General, Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, Mohammed Mamman Thursday in Damaturu disclosed: “The release of inmates was also intended to curb the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in congested environments and correctional centres in Yobe.” The Commissioner for Justice and Chairman Prerogative of Mercy Committee, Malam Saleh Samanja, in the statement said that the release of inmates was also in line with Presidential directive to de-congest prisons.
