The Borno State coronavirus (COVID-19) response team; has traced 104
contacts with the testing of 48 individuals for deadly virus.
The COVID-19 response team, led by Deputy Governor, Umar Kadafur,
disclosed this Tuesday at the maiden news conference held in
Maiduguri, the state capital.
According to him, the response team is embarking on COVID-19
preventive measures with lock down than curative of individuals tested
positive.
While speaking on traced contacts with index case, he said: “Our
response team traced 104 individuals and tested 48 suspected cases,”
disclosing that two were tested positive with 44 individuals tested
negative for COVID-19.
He noted that a Borno citizen was also tested positive in Gombe to
bring total positive cases to three, as on Tuesday (today).
He said that among the traced contacts tested, comprise staff of
University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital UMTH) that treated an index
case from Pulka, but led to his death last Saturday.
On preventive measure with lock down, Kadafur said: “The Abba Kyari
Memorial Hospital has been converted into 100-bed isolation centre,
while UMTH has 36-capacity with 15 ventilators at the two hospitals.
The Commissioner of Health, Dr. Salihu Kwayabura, who serves as
technical committee member said the Emergency Operation Centre, has
been activated to complement services of COIVID-19 treatment centres.
He therefore; urged the public to strictly adhere to personal hygiene,
regular hand washing and use of sanitizers.
“To prevent and contain the coronavirus, the people should continue to
maintain social distancing at homes and other public centres,” he
said.
