The Borno state COVID-19 response team; has locked down the state with
closure of its borders with Adamawa, Yobe and Gombe states, Niger and
Cameroon.
The imposition of lock down and border closures, are to contain the
influx of COVID-19 into the state through six entry points.
COVID-19 response team Chairman, Alhaji Umar Kadafur, who is also the
Deputy Governor in a statement Sunday in Maiduguri; disclosed that
essential movements of persons and goods are exempted from the border
closures.
He said that the order takes effect from Monday, April 13, by 6am.
“Movements in and out of Borno state; are completely restricted to
prevent outbreak and spread of deadly virus,” he said.
Continued; “The border between Borno and Yobe States would be shut
down completely, only persons on essential duties and vehicles
conveying food items, petrol, drugs and other essential commodities
would be allowed into the state.
“This painstaking decision became imperative as part of the measures
to prevent spread of the virus into our dear state, following
discoveries of some suspected cases in some northern states.”
He therefore; warned the general public to comply, pending the outcome
of further directives.
He noted that the state government regretted any inconvenience the
decision would cause the general public.
“The state government had adopted the proactive measure to protect its
citizens in a bid to curb the spread of pandemic into the state.”
