Zulum Approves Borno Council Elections For June 13, 2020

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum has approved the conduct of council elections in the 27 Local Government Areas. The election which is to be conducted by Borno State Independent Electoral Commission (BOSIEC), is slated for Saturday, June 13, 2020. Special Adviser on Public Relations and Strategy to the Governor, Isa Gusau stated Monday in Maiduguri that the Commission; is to conduct elections for 27 chairmen and 312 councilors in the state. While speaking on election funding, he said: “Governor Zulum is committed to continually release all necessary funds to the Commission,” adding that elections will be independently organized without any hitch.

According to him, the approved forthcoming council elections will be credible, free and fair to all contestants at the electoral polls. He reiterated that elections are expected to hold in all the 27 Councils and 312 wards of registered political parties in the state. Speaking on published election timetables, Gusau said: “The commission has today (Monday) published and approved the timetable for the Local Government Elections. “It was signed by Commission’s Chairman, Alhaji Abdu Usman in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.” He said the Commission will this week; Thursday meet with registered political parties and Stakeholders to fine tune the electoral processes, including political parties’ primaries slated for April 16 to 18.

While political parties’ campaigns, he said are to commence from May 15 to June 11, 2020. He also noted that Zulum is committed to peaceful electoral processes across the state. Gusau therefore, enjoined the electorate to fully participate in the forthcoming council elections that was last held in 2003 during the Senator Ali Modu Sheriff administration.
