Chairman of Borno State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ),
Bulama Talba, has commended state government to protect residents and
1.8 million displaced persons against coronavirus.
According to him, Governor Babagana Zulum has taken swift action to
prevent any outbreak of the global coronavirus in the state.
NUJ’s Secretary, Mohammed Ibrahim in a statement Tuesday in Maiduguri,
said: “Worthy of note is the setting up of high powered response team
for the prevention and control of COVID-19.”
He said other adopted, was the provision of state of art facilities
for testing, isolation centre and an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for any
suspected case.
He explained that the restrictive measures, including ban of visitors
to over a dozen IDP camps was to keep the public safe.
Talba called on the state government to provide more artificial
respiratory machines to complement the ones at isolation centre.
“The life-saving respirators are to be used as a precaution in any
suspected case of COVID-19,” he said.
He therefore; assured the State Government of adequate and accurate
COVID-19 coverage, including information on prevention and control of
virus.
“Journalists should not publish any alleged case on Covid-19 without
confirmation from the Response Team or State Commissioner of Health,”
he said, warning that they should be cautious, while reporting issues
on the global deadly virus.
He said the people should remain law abiding amid visitors’
restrictions into IDP camps in Maiduguri, Dikwa, Monguno, Pulka,
Gwoza, Pulka, Gambouru and Damboa.
According to him, personal hygiene should be strictly adhered to with
regular hand washing with soap.
