Local Government Service Commission has been directed by the Lagos Assembly at its Plenary on Thursday, to re-instate the Environmental Health Officers who have enrolled in higher learning and other certify bodies to obtain required license for operation.
This resolution was contained in a report as a recommendation presented by the Chairman House Committtee on Health, Hon. Olusola Sokunle titled “Appeal For Intervention On Re-designation As Environmental Health Officers”.
The recommendation was subsequently adopted as resolution of the House following the unanimous votes of the Lawmakers.
Hon. Abiodun Tobun explained that “they should be returned, because it’s not only environmental related jobs that they do. They also know about tree planting, they can go for environmental certification and then confirmed as Environmental Officers”. He maintained that some of the environmental personnel’s who did not have the formal knowledge and the educational background on environmental issues have taken the step of improving themselves but their efforts was not recognized. He therefore appealed to the Commission to expedite action and do the needful.
In another development, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa called on the Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to intensify efforts in creating awareness about COVID’19 to the people of the State in different languages.
