LAGOS ASSEMBLY CALLS FOR PROSECUTION OF PERPETRATORS OF ABULE-ADO GAS EXPLOSION

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly during the Plenary on Monday has called on the Governor of the State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to investigate the cause of the fatal explosion in Abule-Ado, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government area of the State on Sunday and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.

Hon. Mojisola Ali-Macaulay representing Amuwo-Odofin Constituency I made this call under Matters of Urgent Public Importance that the explosion affected several buildings, destroyed properties including Bethlehem Girls College, halted commercial activities within Abule-Ado and claimed lives.

 “I commiserate with the families of the victims and prayed that God in His infinite mercy grant the peaceful repose to the dead”.  She said.

Lending his voice, Hon. Adewale Temitope representing Ifako-Ijaiye I while commiserating with the families of the deceased commended the Governor for his swift response.

He urged the State Government to create a joint task force of Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps LSNC, the Police, the Army and other security apparatus to come together to help secure those volatile areas, adding that “The security of lives and properties is one of the most important responsibilities of any responsible Government; it is very important to continue to protect lives and properties”.

Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu commended the bravery act of Senior Rev. Henrietta Alokha, the Principal of Bethlehem Girls College who lost her life while trying to rescue her students. He also commended the first respondents, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency-LASEMA, Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency-LASEPA, Fire Service, the Police, Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps-LSNSC, National Emergency Management Agency, residents and volunteers for their prompt action towards salvaging the situation.

He stated “I am happy with Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu who has set up a relief fund of ₦2bn-Two Billion Naira for the people of Abule-Ado for relief as Hon. Macaulay has sought. I will also contribute to that fund so we can hit that target and bring relief to the people of that area. I urge everyone to contribute to this fund”.

He noted that the State Governor has setup a Committee to be headed by the Deputy Governor, Mr. Babafemi Hamzat to find out the remote cause of the explosion and to look for a way forward to avoid this embarrassing occurrence and has given them two weeks to report back to him, adding that the culprit behind this must be brought to book.

The House also resolved to call on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to direct the Land Bureau to investigate the allocation of the lands to residents that built on the pipeline corridors within Abule-Ado and by extension to other part of the State without proper approval from the State Government.”
