Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum has Monday; visited
the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai for a security meeting
at Nigerian Army’s Headquarters, Abuja.
The visit, according to him, was to privately discuss most of “salient
issues and challenges” on ongoing fight against Boko Haram in Borno
state.
While commending Army for its institutional commitments and sacrifices
of personnel in counter-insurgency operations; he said: “the security
measures and sacrifices; are to provide a lasting peace and among
affected communities in Northeast.”
He therefore, called on Army to ‘sustain its momentum’ by taking the
fight to Boko Haram enclaves and hideouts of Sambisa Forests and Lake
Chad region.
“There should be an increased synergy between the military and
civilian host communities affected by decade long insurgency,” he
said, noting that the synergy could eliminate the trust deficit to
enhance generation and sharing of information.
He said that trustful sharing of information, could definitely lead to
actionable intelligence on ending terrorism that is claiming more
lives and property in Borno.
While responding to Zulum’s intelligence sharing suggestions, Buratai
said: “Zulum’s commitments to the fight against Boko Haram are
legendary and something everyone is proud of.”
He described Zulum as a dynamic governor that has been of tremendous
support to the Nigerian military in the combined efforts end
terrorists activities.
He therefore; reaffirmed army’s commitment to not only continue taking
their fight to the enclaves of insurgents; but to go after them beyond
Nigeria’s borders through institutional collaboration with neighboring
countries of Niger, Chad and Cameroon.
