Borno Sets Up COVID-19 Centre, Declares Lassa Fever Free

The Borno state government has set up a COVID-19 isolation centre; to
prevent outbreaks and spread of deadly virus across the state.
The centre; is located at upgraded Abba Kyari Memorial Hospital,
Maiduguri; to receive and treat any case of coronavirus disease.
While briefing the preparedness of Government, the Commissioner of
Health, Dr. Salihu Kwaya Bura disclosed that; “The activation of this
surveillance and treatment centre; was to halt any outbreak and spread
of virus that is yet to be recorded in Borno.
“Our health personnel have undergone training, and are already
deployed to the Abba Kyari COVID-19 centre to receive any patient that
develops symptoms of disease.”
He noted that there was no outbreak of the virus in any party of the state.
While warning the people against panics at motor parks, palaces of
worship and markets, Bura said that if they develop symptoms, an
immediate medical assistance be sought from the new centre.
“You should always adhere to the basic preventative measures against
contracting the virus,” adding that the people should regularly wash
their hands with soap and apply sanitizers to their hands.
The commissioner tasked traditional and religious leaders on the
sensitization of people to “adopt preventative measures” against
coronavirus.
He also declared Borno state free of Lassa fever.
According to him, there was no case of Lassa fever in the last five
weeks in Borno state, as against the national minimum three-week
requirements.
