Three Soldiers Promoted For Gallantry Against Boko Haram Terrorism

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai, has promoted three soldiers to next ranks for exhibiting gallantry against Boko Haram terrorism in northeast. The decade long insurgency has, also claimed many lives and property in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states. While decorating promoted soldiers on Sunday at Buratai Super Camp 3, in Biu council of Borno state, he said that the promotion was part of his operational visit to troops in North-East. According to him, such promotions of troops could also boost their moral to end terrorism in the region. He said Ugwu was promoted from rank of Warrant Officer to Master Warrant Officer; while Goban was promoted from Corporal to Sergeant and Yesif to higher rank of Lance Corporal. The trio gallant soldiers; were also each presented with electric generating and 32 inch plasma television sets.

The soldiers were presented to Buratai for the special award and decoration with their new ranks by Commander of Super Camp, Col. Muhammed Adamu. Buratai said that based on recommendation of their commander on their gallantry, he was convinced that they deserved to be honoured to the next ranks. He therefore, urged other officers and soldiers to continue work hard with discipline, pledging that that everyone who deserved such promotion would be given. Speaking on theatre command’s innovation, he said: “The Nigerian Army would continue to encourage innovation in science and technology and improve on capacity building of troops.

“The army is an institution to function effectively in discharging our constitutional responsibilities. “We commend the Theatre Commander and all officers that are working hard to contain the security challenges in the country, particularly in the northeast. “You ensure that your troops operate confidently by providing the necessary protection through these equipment improvisations.” Adamu said that the soldiers’ gallantry was instrumental to the recent successes so far recorded by troops against terrorists.
