Dangote cement truck kills seven people in Ota

…Angry mob sets the truck on fire

This morning 15 February 2020, at about 1135 hrs, a fatal crash involving multiple vehicles occured along the Lagos – Abeokuta Expressway around the old toll gate at Ota which has led to the death of seven persons .

Rescue Operation is still ongoing .

The crash involved a dangote truck conveying cements ; a space wagon and a volks wagen yellow coloured passengers bus.

Irate mob protesting the incident have set ablaze the Dangote truck suspected to have caused the fatal crash

The FRSC is still at the scene managing the incident and has contacted the Fire Service to extinguish the inferno to make rescue operations faster .

Also sister security and emergency agencies have been informed to assist in curtailing the situation

The inciident occured at about 1135hrs along the :Abeokuta -Lagos Expressway adjacent the old tollgate at Ota, Ogun State.

The crash involved a total of 17 people made up of 06 Male Adults , 02Male Children 08Female Adults , and 01Female Child) ,
The
Vehicles involved were 03; comprising (a) Dangote Truck Ash coloured with no registration number (b)V\W Bus Yellow coloured with registration number LSR128XP . (c) a white coloured Sienna bus with registration number APP122CD

The susoected causes were speeding and mechanical deficiency suspected to be brake failure

The total number of people killed were 07 made up of 02Male dults , 03Female Adults, 01Male Child and 01Female Child ,
The number
injured were : 10 made up of 04Male Adults and 06Female Adults.
The Injured victims were rescued to Ota General Hospital, while the corpses of the dead victims were deposited at the IFO General Hospital Morgue in Ogun State.

The FRSC Sector Commander, Ogun State Command Clement Oladele has commisorated with the relations of the victims and again warned that the area the crash occured is a black spot notorious for frequent crashes , which has claimed over 40 lives in the last five years and called on motorists especially articulated vehicles to drive cautiously whenever ussing that section of the corridor .

The Sector Commander also advised passerbys to desist from turning into mobs and resorting to self help by wilfully destroying public properties or accidented vehicles, irrespective of the level of provocations , as there are standard ways of handling and reporting griviancies to appropriate law enforcement agencies.
