How Obasanjo Cedes 24 Northeast Councils To Cameroon

The United Nations; has conceived UNO state of Cameroon; when UN former Secretary General, Kofi Annan; invited former President Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria and Paul Biya of Cameroon to sign documents respecting their countries’ boundaries. Obasanjo and Biya signed the documents in March, 2003 to cede their territories to the proposed UNO new country in Africa. The UN; according to recent reports has pledged to actualize a new State of Cameroon on July 10, 2020. The locals in Southern Cameroons have already tagged the state; “Ambazonia.” In Nigeria, the landmass extends from Bakassi Peninsular in Cross River state, including Gambouru/Ngala, Borno state in Lake Chad.

The ceded areas to Cameroon in Northeast, Nigeria, comprise 24 Local Government Areas in Borno (five), Adamawa (12) and Taraba (seven) states. According to UN workshop coordinator and Chairman, steering committee, Prof. Martin Chia Ateh, the councils, include Bama, Gwoza, Ngala, Kala/Balge, Dikwa, Madagali, Michika, Mubi North, Mubi South, Mayo/Belwa, Toungo, Ganye, Serti, Hong, Jada, Maiha, Jada and seven others in Adamawa and Taraba states/. The UN has also kept an eagle-eye watch on the Northern and Southern Cameroons; since Obasanjo and Biya signed the documents on respect of their boundaries. Secretary General of UN, Antonio Guterres has commenced the process of sensitization towards the July 10 date of creating a new state for the Anglophone separatists in Cameroon.

According to reports, Guterres has continuously reached out to the UN representative in charge of the territories, Prof. Ateh to constantly organise sensitisation workshops on brief history of UNO State of Cameroon. The UN is determined and constantly fingered as an interested party in the arrangement to actualize UNO state of Cameroon. The Nigerian government should also carry out an investigation to establish the facts surrounding the purported ceding of 24 Local Government Areas to create new country. The country, according the Googled map, is sandwiched between Nigeria and Cameroon Republics with Bakassi Peninsula and Lake Chad in the south and northeast of it. The UNO state of Cameroon; has 28, 214 square kilometers with an estimated population of 20 million.

The 72-hour ultimatum given by US to Cameroon to withdraw her military from Southern Cameroons; has however, expired last week. Neither the US nor Cameroon has responded to expiration of military pullout, as both countries kept mum over the directives. The Cameroonian speaker of the National Assembly, Cavage Yeguie Djibril has asked Cameroonian government to fully implement the new law on decentralization that seeks to grant greater power to local councils and regions. Biya signed the law on the promotion of official language in Cameroon, settlement law of the Republic of Cameroon for 2020 financial year, last December.

The bill addresses the creation of assemblies of chiefs, regional assemblies and councils with each of the two territories having elected presidents, vice president, secretaries and public affairs management controllers. But this is against the 72-hour US ultimatum that has directed Cameroon to pullout her military “immediately and unconditionally.” This was according to approval in a resolution of an Act authorizing President Donald Trump and US Department of Defence for President Paul Biya to comply immediately. The United Nations according to reports has promised to actualize a new UNO State of Cameroon on July 10, 2020.
