The Food Agricultural Organisation (FAO) flags off the 2019 dry season farming to restore livelihoods of 35, 000 small-scale households today in Northeast. The flag off slated Friday at Farm Centre, Maiduguri; targeted small-scale holders, whose productive assets, were destroyed in decade long insurgency in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states. In FAO’s media advisory released yesterday to journalists in Maiduguri, disclosed that farmers are to be given lifelines to rebuild and restore their livelihoods through crop support, livestock restocking and aquaculture.
According to advisory statement, the household farmers are to be provided with inputs for food production and protect their livelihoods. “The activity will reach about 35 000 smallholder farmers in northeast; Nigeria with seeds of vegetables and high market value crops,” said the statement. It added that Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state, will be represented by Commissioners of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Reconstruction, Resettlement and Rehabilitation (RRR) and other development partners.
