YOBE TO COMPLETE N2.84B DAMATURU MARKET IN 12 MONTHS

Governor Maimala Buni of Yobe state; has laid foundation stone for N2.84 billion Ultra-Modern market to fast track economic development of the state capital, Damaturu. The contract, which was awarded to Euro Afric Energy, is to be completed in 12 months. Laying the foundation stone Monday in Damaturu, Buni said: “During our inauguration last May; we made policy pronouncements that this administration will embark on the construction of modern markets across the 17 councils. “This clearly demonstrates our commitments to the economic development of our state.” He said markets are an important building block of a prosperous economy; that could create various job opportunities among unemployed youths. He said after completion of market, there would be exchange of goods and services that accelerates the momentum for socioeconomic growth and development. According to him, the market project comprises open and lock shops, administrative building, perimeter fencing, roads and drainages, water supply, parking lots, fire service and police outpost. His words: “After completion of market in October next year, it will fast economic growth and encourage the Organised Private Sector (OPS) to efficiently produce and innovate. On running the market, Buni said: “The running of the Damaturu Sunday market was vested in the Damaturu Local Government Council. “That was the case since the creation of our state on August 27, 1991 . With the dilapidated and inadequate structures in the market and the urgent need to boost economic growth, we thought it is necessary for us to intervene at the state level. “This is exactly what we are doing right now.” He said the completion of market, will provided a standard and conducive business environment for the exchange of goods and services. He said government would continue to provide incentives for individuals and members of OPS to invest in various business ventures and accelerate socioeconomic development. He urged the people, particularly traders and marketers to cooperate with contractor complete the project. According to him, the contractor should adherence to specifications and in accordance to terms of contracts.
