Ex-NTA screen goddess, Mrs Eugenia Abu has said that Nigerian foods only fails to entice people because of its packaging and presentation as against foreign foods.
She made this known yesterday in Abuja where she was Special Guest of Honour at the presentation of Food Channel Africa, a New Television Platform poised to expose the richness of Nigerian Traditional Cuisines.
“Foreign food is not better than Nigerian food but you have to think out of the box, package and present it well” said Abu.
“look at what you are bringing to the table that has not been done before to make a difference” She stressed.
“Running a Food Channel is extremely difficult but once you dream and believe it, it can be done”. Abu advised.
The hostess, a food enthusiast, blogger and an author, Mrs Deborah Oguwuche, who doubled the event with her 30th birthday In her remark said that, she is launching the first food television platform in Africa that will expose the richness of Nigerian traditional cuisines.
“Having travelled widely and tested foods both in the UK and US, I must confess that there is no food like Nigerian food and the only way to create this awareness is through a television show, hence, the birth of Food Channel Africa”
“Through our products and services, people and community involvement, Food Channel Africa aims to convey the rich and variety fabric of Nigerian society by reflecting a multiplicity of backgrounds, experiences and living situations” said Ogwuche.
“We need to go back to our traditional diets for longevity and the best way to enhance this is to go back to Nigerian traditional diets”
“We will also ensure high quality news and information on food and healthy living, especially on good nutrition”. She added
Also at the event, the hostess’ spouse, Mr Yakubu Ogwuche said that diet is a very essential part of everyday living and Nigerians will key into it.
“Initially I was sceptical but her zeal has been a motivating factor and I am fully supporting her dream”
“I see Food Channel Africa exploding and spreading very far because once people catch the vision and know the essence of eating a very good diet, they will cash in on it”.
“I can see it reaching out to not only Africa but the world at large in 5 years time” he added.
Already aiming at getting over 200 people off the labour market through employment, Ogwuche stressed that equal employment opportunity awaits them as they will be employed strictly on merit, without discrimination of race, religion, gender or disability.
