BORNO RESIDENTS EMBARK ON ROAD MATCH TO KICK OUT POLIO

Residents of Maiduguri metropolis in Borno state; have intensified awareness to kick out polio with a road match rally to market squares and Shehu’s palace. The two-hour road match, according to Rotary International Representative, Alamai Some, was to raise more awareness on polio eradication across the state and border areas of Niger, Chad and Cameroon. The residents comprise over 1,000 women, tricycle operators, health personnel and members of Journalists Against Polio (JAP). He said yesterday’s (Wednesday) road match, was to mark World Polio Day with a theme: “Be an Immunization Champion. Maintain Zero Polio.” He said that this is the first time in the history of Borno to raise more awareness on polio eradication in each council, including border areas of neighbouring countries. According to him, polio has been kicked out from the globe, with the exception of Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
