MEDICAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA SET TO LAUNCH FREE CARE FOR MENTAL ILLNESSES

Date:

Nigerian doctors, members of the Medical Association of Nigeria (NMA), have begun launching free mental health care in the country.

This will reduce the growing rate of disease in Nigeria, said Francis Faduyile, president of the NMA in Akure, a city in southwestern Nigeria.

He was speaking at the inauguration of the “Porter My Cross Center”, a non-governmental organization dedicated to providing services to patients suffering from mental health illnesses.

Mr Faduyile emphasized that mental health problems should be taken seriously by the actors involved.

He also condemned the acts of discrimination and stigmatization of persons suffering from mental illnesses.
