Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara this morning cast fresh doubt over his future in Bavaria, amid heavy links with both Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Thiago, brother of current Barcelona midfielder Rafinha (who recently returned from a loan at Inter Milan), joined Barca’s youth setup in 2005, before breaking into the club’s first-team in 2009.
However, his emergence coincided with a spell during which one of the greatest midfields of all-time were plying their trade at the Camp Nou, with Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets and more having made the pathway to regular minutes a tough one for Thiago.
Nevertheless, during his time spent on the pitch, the technically-gifted midfield dynamo looked a genuine talent, with many fans of the club having earmarked Thiago as the natural heir to Xavi.
A report from Spanish outlet Sport yesterday backed the claims that Barcelona are indeed eyeing a return to the club for Thiago this summer, with the publication having also named the Blaugrana’s fierce rivals Real Madrid as suitors of the Spanish midfielder.
Thiago himself was then drawn on the rumours of his possible return to La Liga during a brief interview with reporters following Spain’s advancement to the last-16 of the World Cup last night, with the 27-year-old’s response having done little to stem the flames surrounding his name.
In a short and telling reply, Thiago simply asked for ‘another question’.
Read into that what you will, but the fact that the Bayern Munich man in no way affirmed his commitment to the Bavarian giants looks to be another clear sign that he is in fact eyeing a move back to his home country this summer.
