TROOPS RESCUE 149 CAPTIVES, ARREST FIVE TERRORISTS, KILL FOUR OTHERS IN BORNO

Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole have rescued 149 captives with arrest
of five terrorists in Yerimari Kura village; while fleeing Sambisa
Forest captured last year by military in Borno state.
The troops, during the Saturday clearance operation, also killed four
terrorists and suicide bombers in Konduga community, located in
northern flank of forest.
Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Deputy Director Public Relations, Theatre
Command Operation in a statement issued on Sunday in Maiduguri said:
“During the Saturday encounter with insurgents, troops killed three
Boko Haram terrorists and captured five others.
“Fifty four women 95 children held hostage by the insurgents were
rescued by the gallant troops. They also destroyed several logistics
belonging to the insurgents.”
He said the rescued hostages are currently receiving medical attention
at the 21 Brigade Medical centre.
According to him, the 149 rescued captives will be profiled after the
medical screening session.
On bombers’ sneak in community, Nwachukwu said: “The two suicide
bombers strapped with suicide vests were sneaking into the Konduga
community at about 8pm, when they were sighted by vigilant troops.
“The troops challenged them from a safe distance. The patrol engaged
them as they refused halting and ran towards the community, detonating
their suicide vests.”
He said only the suicide bombers died in the incident, while three
persons sustained minor injuries and received medical attention.
